Fasken Martineau partners with MCeX solidifying the firm's leadership in Environmental Law

May 30, 2008

Fasken Martineau partnered with the Montreal Climate Exchange (MCeX), the first regulated environmental market in Canada.

The MCeX is positioned to lead the growth of environmental markets in Canada through the development of market solutions that efficiently reduce industry greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The establishment of the MCeX is aimed at building investor participation in a futures trading system for pollutants and GHG contracts. This new Canadian financial market will encourage organizations to manage environmental risks cost effectively by leveraging business opportunities through clean technology development, including carbon emission reduction programs.

Fasken Martineau’s partnership with the MCeX is a component of the firm’s broader, national climate change initiative. The initiative is led by a team of legal experts in the Energy, Environmental, Climate Change and Regulatory practice: André Turmel, Pierre Meunier, Florence Dagicour, Pierre-Olivier Charlebois, Paul Wilson, Ron Ezekiel, Kai Alderson and Heidi Granger.

The MCeX is a joint venture between the Montreal Exchange (MX) and the Chicago Climate Exchange® (CCX), a global pioneer in the design and operation of carbon markets in the United States and Europe.
