Alex Cameron

Associate

Alex Cameron is an associate in the firm's Privacy and Information Protection Group and Technology and Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses on a broad range of corporate commercial litigation and legislative compliance matters, including privacy, access to information, copyright, contracts and licensing, trade-marks, domain names, trade secrets and confidential information, and the preservation and discovery of electronic information in litigation.

In 2007-2008, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada commissioned Alex to author drafts of a landmark privacy law book titled Leading by Example: Key Developments in the First Seven Years of PIPEDA. Published in 2008, Leading by Example reviews leading findings and cases under Canada's national data protection law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). The book is designed to help businesses comply with the requirements of the Act as interpreted by the growing body of cases and findings under the Act. Alex was the only outside counsel involved in the drafting of the book.

Alex has broad courtroom experience, having appeared at various levels of court for motions and trials. He also has experience in alternative dispute resolution.

Alex has regularly published papers, taught upper year and graduate law courses and given presentations at conferences in many of his areas of practice. Alex is presently pursuing a doctoral degree in law with a focus on privacy, intellectual property and technology design and development.
