Christine P. Tabbert

Christine Tabbert's advocacy practice focuses on securities litigation and broker liability, pensions and benefits litigation, and other corporate and commercial matters.

Christine represents investment dealers, mutual fund dealers, registered representatives and others in the securities industry, primarily in the retail sector, in regulatory proceedings and investigations conducted by the Investment Dealers Association and the Ontario Securities Commission. She also represents a variety of clients in pensions and benefits cases at the Financial Services Tribunal, as well as before the courts, in cases involving pension surpluses, wind-ups, trusts, class proceedings concerning pension rights, pension plan governance and regulatory compliance.

Christine was recently seconded as Counsel to an investment dealer where, in addition to dealing with litigation-related matters, she advised the dealer on a wide variety of compliance issues, business initiatives and projects, recruitment, supervision and termination of financial advisors, daily operations of the dealership, external audits, financial products and regulatory examinations. In this role, Christine was also responsible for managing external counsel on a variety of legal matters.

Christine has broad experience in matters involving commercial disputes, interlocutory proceedings (including complex motions for injunctions and summary judgment), corporate governance and contract interpretation. She has appeared as counsel on numerous trials, complex applications, appeals and other matters before the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal, various self-regulatory and administrative tribunals, and commercial arbitrations.

Christine recently developed and conducted two series of litigation seminars for the firm's litigation clients called "Back to Basics". She also conducts several of Fasken Martineau's internal education programs each year on topics such as effective legal writing, securities litigation and documentary discovery. Christine was a member of the firm's Student Development Committee, which is responsible for the development, supervision and training of the firm's summer and articling students, from 2002 to 2007. She articled with the firm in 1998-99, joined the litigation department as an associate in 2000, became a partner in February 2006, and was appointed one of two vice-chairs of the Toronto litigation department in 2007.
