Fasken Martineau staff, lawyers, family and friends walk the walk against breast cancer
September 27, 2005
- Sore feet, aching limbs, soaring spirits – that's how three teams with representatives from Fasken Martineau described their 2-day 60km trek in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer
, held in Vancouver from August 19th to 21st, in support of cancer research and our client the BC Cancer Foundation.
"We were all sorts of people walking - young, old, cancer patients, cancer survivors and supporters," stated Angie Coppersmith, member of Team Fasken Martineau and cancer survivor herself. "It was a life altering experience for everyone. We heard stories of great courage, miracles and determination to survive against all odds. We laughed, we cried and we walked, we walked and then we walked some more."
Three teams with members from Fasken Martineau took up the challenge: Team Fasken Martineau, including firm members Angie Coppersmith, Allison MacInnis, Sheila Paine, Linda Scott and friends; Hunger For Da Cure, consisting of Fasken Martineau partner George Hungerford and members of his family; and Mulgrave's Bosom Buddies, comprised of Fasken Martineau partner Marina Pratchett, daughter Meghan and friends.
The support of the community was overwhelming. People in every neighbourhood along the path came out to cheer the walkers on and show their encouragement. People also supported the cause and our teams financially. Combined, the three teams raised a total of approximately $85,750.00. The event as a whole raised over $7 million.
Our firm is proud of all who took up the challenge and showed great stamina and determination in the fight against breast cancer.
