The mining industry has been particularly active in seeking admissions to AIM of late and Fasken Martineau's position as global leader in mining law for the third year running, (source: Who's Who Legal) has been further strengthened by the arrival of Leonardo Neves. A mining and environmental law specialist, Neves has been recruited as an associate in Fasken London's corporate team which is headed by partner, June Paddock.

Before joining Fasken, Neves, a Brazilian and fluent Portuguese speaker, was a member of the Natural Resources Group at Pinheiro Neto Advogados, one of the largest law firms in Brazil where he gained extensive experience in international mining due diligence issues concerning title, technical matters and environmental risks. He has been involved in several projects run by major and junior companies, such as the US$1.2 billion Onca-Puma nickel project in Brazil, later sold by Canadian company, Canico to Brazilian company, CVRD.

Neves has also worked as a Foreign Legal Consultant at McMillan Binch Mendelsohn in Toronto where he had first hand experience in the capital market and was involved in the listing of a uranium company in the TSX as well as several private placements.

Neves qualified to practise law at the University of Brasilia and he has just completed a Masters in Corporate and Securities Law at the LSE in London.

Commenting on the appointment, June Paddock, partner at Fasken Martineau Stringer Saul said: "Leonardo's international experience in Brazil and Canada particularly appealed to us and he will be a great addition to the growing corporate team here in London. We also expect him to make a significant contribution to Fasken's Global Mining Group."
