Ashen is a partner in the Johannesburg office of Fasken Martineau and heads up the projects and finance team. He specialises in project and infrastructure finance, corporate finance and energy and mining finance in Africa. Ashen also advises both lenders and sponsors in relation to South African public-private partnerships (PPPs).

He has significant experience in infrastructure development in the mining, telecommunication, transport, power and energy and information technology areas and has been involved in numerous cross-border projects in Africa, which include undersea cable and cellular and fixed line telephony projects.

Ashen has advised on all aspects of limited recourse financing and has expertise in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) with a particular focus on EPC/EPCM, operation and maintenance agreements, technical service agreements, power purchase agreements (PPA) and related legal services as relates to project financed transactions.
