AT&T Corp. completes $5.5 billion "back-end" acquisition
On October 8, 2002, AT&T Corp. completed the acquisition of all of the publicly-traded shares of AT&T Canada Inc. it did not already hold. The transaction, in which the shares were acquired by each of AT&T Corp. and wholly-owned subsidiaries of Brascan Inc. and CIBC Capital Partners, represented the fulfilment of AT&T Corp.'s "back-end" obligation pursuant to deposit receipt arrangements made at the time of AT&T's 1999 acquisition of MetroNet Communications Corp.
