Bodog completes Betcorp acquisition
On November 15, 2006, Betcorp Ltd. completed the sale of its gaming operations and operating infrastructure to Bodog Entertainment Group SA for $9 million. In addition, Bodog assumed the net current liabilities of Betcorp of approximately $2 million.
This was a re-privatization of the publicly listed Betcorp Ltd. into the privately held Bodog, due to the passing into law of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act on October 13, 2006 in the U.S.A.
Betcorp's Board received legal advice that there was a possibility of the extra-jurisdictional application of United States legislation and the restrictions on financial transaction processing which are following from the Act. As a result, the Group suspended the accounts of United States residents on 13th October 2006.
Fasken Martineau advised Betcorp in the Canadian aspects of this transaction with a team comprised of Ian Kyer and Danielle Hough.
