Claire Vachon is the leader of the Labour, Employment and Human Rights Practice Group. She has a varied practice encompassing all areas of labour and employment law. Fluently bilingual, Claire services her clients in both official languages. She maintains strong ties with French-speaking communities whose members represent a significant portion of her clientele.

Claire has extensive experience representing employers in collective bargaining, more particularly in the education sector where she has focused her practice for more than a decade. She has been involved in all provincial and local rounds of collective bargaining since 2005, both as advisor and spokesperson. Drawing on her extensive knowledge of this sector’s legal and political environment, she has become a trusted advisor to many Ontario school boards in such matters as collective agreement negotiation, labour arbitration proceedings, human rights proceedings, employment standards inquiries, as well as policy and contract drafting/review.

Through past experience working with pay equity and compensation experts in the context of major pay equity litigation, Claire has also acquired invaluable knowledge of pay equity legislation, its founding principles and all technical aspects of job evaluation. As a result, she brings highly focused, strategic and practical advice to her clients, whether she is assisting them in responding to random audits or in putting in place proactive monitoring mechanism to ensure ongoing compliance with pay equity legislation.

Claire is a seasoned speaker. She focuses on presenting labour and employment issues, law and regulations in a dynamic and practical manner. She is frequently called to provide specialized in-house training which she specifically tailors to her clients’ needs.
