Lisa Abe and C. Ian Kyer participated as lecturers at the inaugural Cloud Computing Law conference hosted by Federated Press in Toronto March 30 & 31.
Lisa Abe was a speaker at the session titled Cloud Computing and Copyright Law. Lisa answered important questions of concern to businesses when using the Cloud for computing and other services, including understanding the Cloud and identifying its risks, what rights copyright holders have in the cloud, how to protect oneself from Copyright infringement claims, and other practical advice based upon recent case law involving cloud computing and virtualization.
Ian Kyer discussed Jurisdictional Issues in Cloud Computing, looking at the implications of virtual storage on legal jurisdiction questions. Topics included:
- Providing a framework for analyzing legal jurisdictional challenges
- Risks in data flows among different national jurisdictions
- Impact of differences in privacy, security and confidentiality concepts and regulations
- Assessing the risk of having data switched without your knowledge
