Hot Off the Press: David Wotherspoon & Alex Cameron author book on electronic evidence and e-discovery

June 21, 2010

Toronto (Canada) Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that David Wotherspoon and Alex Cameron co-authored a new guide for civil litigators, titled Electronic Evidence and E-Discovery.

"Protecting your clients' interests—be that shielding them from overly broad disclosure requests or sorting through masses of disclosed files—is one of the most important steps in the litigation cycle. Managing this information strategically and cost-effectively can be daunting for litigation counsel, corporate counsel and business executives. Our book responds to this challenge," said David Wotherspoon, a partner with Fasken Martineau's Commercial Litigation Group and Technology & Intellectual Property Group.

The book explores how to manage electronic evidence risks before litigation arises using an effective document management policy and a litigation hold. The scope of an organization's obligation to preserve and produce electronic evidence is also addressed, along with computer forensics and checklists for document management and electronic evidence gathering.

"The proliferation of electronic information in business, government and individuals' daily lives presents a number of risks and opportunities in legal proceedings. There is hardly a case today that does not involve the preservation and disclosure of a substantial volume of e-mails, spreadsheets and other electronic documents. With a focus on risk management and applicable legal and business considerations, we designed this guide to be practical, informative and accessible to a wide audience," said Alex Cameron, a lawyer with Fasken Martineau's Privacy & Information Protection Group and Litigation Group.

Edited by Dr. Sunny Handa, the book is published by LexisNexis Canada. For more information, or to purchase a copy , visit the LexisNexis bookstore.
