Douglas Scott is a senior corporate partner at the firm. During his career which spans 35 years, he has had a broad corporate and commercial practice. He acts as a relationship partner for many of the firm's significant clients including Canadian Pacific Railway Company, St. Lawrence Cement Inc., McCain Foods Limited and Sifto Canada Corp. As such he is responsible for managing the legal services delivered to these clients and for having a deep understanding of their business strategy so he can best determine how the firm can assist these clients in achieving their goals. These clients present a broad array of legal issues on a daily basis which must be dealt with on a cost effective basis. Doug was the engagement partner for E. I. duPont de Nemours & Company and its Canadian subsidiary for many years and managed the firm's relationship as a member of the DuPont Primary Law Firm Network.
Doug has been the lead partner on a number of the significant M&A transactions done by the firm and has led or assisted in the negotiations resulting in the numerous agreements which form part of these transactions. In this connection, he has coordinated and synthesized the advice and expertise of the firm's specialists in the real estate, tax, finance, labour and employment law, pension, environmental and intellectual property areas.
Doug is a former member of the executive committee of the Toronto office and former Chair of the Business Law Department, the largest department of the firm in Toronto.
