Montréal (Canada) – Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that Serge Lapointe, PhD and Patent Agent, has written an article about the importance of non-patent exclusivities in the life-cycle management of pharmaceuticals.

This article offers an overview of the alternative forms of protection existing for inventions, innovations and discoveries in the pharmaceutical business. It defines and establishes the span of such protections in different jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, by analyzing and comparing the various existing regulations. Serge argues that it is critical in the life-cycle management of new drugs that pharmaceutical stakeholders be aware of, fully understand and properly use these additional forms of protection to maximize their return on investment.

Serge Lapointe has extensive experience in obtaining patent protection in the life sciences sector in Canada, the United States and abroad, and is an expert of genomics, proteomics and pharmaceuticals. He specializes in drafting patent applications and preparing opinions on patent validity and infringement for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
