Monday, September 19 | Public Companies: Devising and Implementing a Social Media Strategy
As part of the Accountability Summit during Social Media Week, presenters will discuss the creation and drafting of a social media policy for public companies and the implementation of a social media strategy for investor relations. This seminar will emphasize key issues for public companies to consider when putting a social media policy in place and will include an in-depth discussion of the day-to-day management of a public company's social media networks.
Registration is now closed.
Tuesday, September 20 | Anti-Social Media: Dealing with Social Media from a Litigation Perspective
Social media has provided an instant, global and unedited platform for sharing information, much of which is scandalous, damaging, or untrue. Can anything remain contained or private? What is too obscene or sensitive to remain in the public eye? How can "anonymous" wrongdoers be unmasked? Who can be held accountable for wrongdoing, and how?
David Wotherspoon, Tariq Ahmed and Kevin Nakanishi will discuss the answers to these questions, as well as best practices and strategies regarding the use--and abuse--of social media.
This seminar is being presented as part of Social Media Week's Accountability Summit.
Registration is now closed.
Wednesday, September 21 | IP Issues in Social Media
Do you have a great social media idea and want to protect it? Do you wonder if posting some of your favourite photos on Facebook infringes copyright laws? Social media embodies different types of intellectual property (IP) such as copyrights, trade-marks, patents and trade-secrets. Social media activities often infringe intellectual property rights. This seminar will provide an introduction to the main types of IP embodying social media, explain how IP can be protected, and provide an overview of how the risk of liability posed by IP infringement can be managed.
This seminar is presented as part of Social Media Week's Accountability Summit.
Registration is now closed.
Thursday, September 22 | Social Networking: What Employers Need to Know
Employers are routinely using social media to make "hiring and firing" decisions, but there are risks associated with these decisions. There are limitations on the right to monitor employees under privacy law. There are statutory and legal implications for using social media to manage relationships in the workplace. Knowledge is key to avoiding liability; this seminar will provide the relevant, and up to date information, and give you the tools you need to use social media without creating liability.
This seminar is presented as part of Social Media Week's Accountability Summit.
This session is now full.
Note: Lawyers are eligible to claim 1.0 hour of CPD credit, for each session. After each seminar, simply visit the Law Society's website to report your time.
