This seminar will explore the opportunities and disadvantages of a credit union or caisse populaire operating under the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act (Ontario) or the Bank Act, which, if Bank Act amendments are enacted, would permit the incorporation of federal credit unions or the continuance of provincial credit unions and caisses populaires federally.  Topics covered will include:

  • Incorporation, continuance and amalgamation – multi-jurisdiction opportunities and limitations
  • Share structure and capital issues
  • Investment powers, strategic investment and joint venture opportunities and restrictions
