GS Engineering & Construction chosen for $310 million oilsands EPC project for Harvest Energy

On July 18, 2010, GS Engineering & Construction Corp. of South Korea was contracted by the country's state oil company, Korea National Oil Corp. ("KNOC"), to build an oilsands project in northern Alberta. GS Engineering & Construction was awarded the $310 million contract for BlackGold Phase 1.

The project will be operated by Calgary-based Harvest Energy Trust, which KNOC acquired in December 2009.

GS Engineering & Construction was advised in the negotiation of this contract by Fasken Martineau with a team that included Helmut Johannsen (infrastructure/construction); David Robertson (tax); Greg Powers and Jonathan Bahnuik (energy/corporate); Thora Sigurdson (employment); Don Dalik and Robert Quon (Investment Canada Act/competition); John C.H. Kim (energy/corporate); and Chelsea Bushfield and Harpreet Nahal (corporate).
