Northland Bank and Deloitte and Touche Inc. v. Willson et al., Barker, Klassen et al. (Defence of Directors and Officers)

Client

Gordon Barken and Edmund Klassen

Date

March 1998
Led a team in the defence of two former directors of the Northland Bank sued for damages in excess of $600 Million in two separate lawsuits in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta arising out of the failure of the Northland Bank. Over a period of 8 years his team conducted a vigorous defence for the clients which involved third party proceedings against auditors, regulators and ministers of the Crown and extensive examinations for discovery of the parties with many interlocutory applications. On the eve of trial in March 1998 this action was settled for both clients on a very reasonable basis.
