Isabelle Chabot, Eng.

Isabelle leads the patent team at our Québec City offices. She is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States and has been working in the area of intellectual property since 1999, seeing to all aspects of invention protection through patents. Isabelle finds creative ways to protect inventions and maximise her clients' return on their R&D investments. She specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and industrial designs. Isabelle is particularly committed to negotiating and obtaining broad protection for the inventions covered by the patent applications that she files. She is also involved in obtaining equivalent protection abroad, availing herself of a global network of patent agents. She prepares opinions on patentability, validity and freedom to operate, as well as on patent and industrial design infringement.

In addition, Isabelle assists both established and start-up companies with their intellectual property management decisions. She is regularly involved in matters of financing and in mergers and acquisitions cases, ensuring due diligence reviews of the intellectual property assets at stake in a given operation or transaction.

Isabelle holds a joint bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, with a focus on optics and software engineering, from the Université Laval in Québec City and the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. She has extensive expertise in the areas of software, electronics, telecommunications, optics, and business methods, as well as in IT in general.

Isabelle contributes to her field through her involvement in the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's Forums and Seminars Committee. In this capacity, she helps develop the educational component of the Institute's annual general meetings. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Canadian group of the Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and of the organizing committee for the AIPPI world congress, to be held in Toronto in 2014.

Isabelle is also a member of the Bank of Speakers for the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).
