Karen Wyke is a partner in the Complex Litigation practice group in the Calgary office of Fasken Martineau. Karen's practice focuses on a broad range of complex matters, including product liability, securities litigation (including shareholders' rights), energy industry disputes, contract disputes and class action litigation. Karen is also involved in advising clients in aboriginal and regulatory matters. Her clients comprise a diverse group of energy companies and manufacturers.
Some examples of Karen's experience include:
- providing counsel to a large oil and gas producer regarding an aboriginal rights claim;
- providing counsel to a large agricultural company in a multi-party action involving one of its products;
- prosecuting and defending separate illegal take-over bid actions;
- providing counsel to a large chemical company in product liability claims;
- acting as defence counsel for large insurers in life insurance and long term disability claims;
- successfully defending a number of coverage claims with respect to insurance and long term disability claims;
- rendering coverage opinions with respect to fire, business interruption and Directors and Office Liability policies;
- acting as counsel for and against employers with respect to wrongful and constructive dismissal claims;
- acting as counsel for employers with respect to Human Rights claims; and
- rendering opinions to employers respecting appropriate termination notices.
