Kyla is a graduate of the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law. Prior to law school Kyla completed a B.A. Honours with Distinction in English Literature, also from the University of Calgary. During this time she received several scholarships and awards, including the Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship, and the Canadian College Athletic Association Award for Academic Excellence. Kyla was on the Deans Honour List for the duration of her undergraduate degree and was active in athletics at the national level in both cross-country running and skiing. She also participated in two summer language exchange programs in Quebec which gave her a great love for the province but unfortunately only a slight improvement in her basic French.
During law school Kyla volunteered with Student Legal Assistance and Pro Bono Students Canada, as well as participating in a summer exchange at the Sorbonne, Paris with Cornell University Law School. In order to be able to fairly compare exchange programs she also spent her final fall semester taking international law courses at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. She was the recipient of a Faculty of Law Scholarship, a MacLeod Dixon International Studentship and an Alberta Law Foundation Scholarship.
Prior to starting her articles Kyla liked to spend her free time and student loans travelling to places like Australia, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Now that she has started work and those pesky letters requesting loan repayment are arriving in her mailbox, she entertains herself in Calgary with yoga classes and attempts at cooking.
