The speaker will address various issues related to accessing documents in the context of liquidation of a succession. Information, especially financial information, regarding a deceased person, is of primary importance, as it is often the only evidence of a deceased person's financial situation. Liquidators need access to all relevant information in order to carry out their duties, including that of drawing up an inventory. Similarly, the liquidator's supervision can only be carried out through having the successors and other assigns review relevant documents, such that these parties also need to access certain documents. Finally, liquidators, successors and assigns alike may need to consult documents concerning the deceased person in order to claim their own rights following the death, namely those relating to inheritance. The speaker will address aspects of succession and trust law, and discuss a deceased person's privacy rights and the issue of managing personal information.
