Matthieu Adam

Partner

Matthieu Adam is a partner of the firm's Paris office. He joined the office in September 2009 after eight years spent as an associate and then, as counsel, in the Paris offices of Latham & Watkins and Dewey & LeBoeuf.

Matthieu is both a transactional and a litigation lawyer.

Initially specialized in economics and antitrust/competition European and French law (merger control, cartels, dominance, trade practices), Matthieu had diversified his area of intervention since 2008 and is regularly involved also in numerous projects and transactions in the African continent, principally in the energy and mining sectors (M&A, acquisition of mining titles, project financing, regulatory, international contracts, litigation). His activity in connection with numerous African matters has allowed him to develop a very good knowledge of local legal systems applicable in this continent, both at the national or regional level (e.g., OHADA, CEDEAO-ECOWAS, UEMOA-WAEMU, CEMAC-ECCAS, COMESA).

In addition, Matthieu assists his clients in the negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts and is a seasoned practitioner in the field of distribution law (e.g. franchising, exclusive/selective distribution, agency agreements) and commercialization of products (e.g. REACH, labeling, export/import regulations, product recalls).

Finally, a significant part of Matthieu's practice relates to matters concerning climate change, in particular compliance with public policies and transactions relating to greenhouse gases emission reductions (e.g. CDM projects, emission reductions purchase agreements of CERs or VERs) either falling or not under the Kyoto Protocol.

Matthieu assists international and French clients across a wide range of industry sectors, such as energy (e.g. oil & gas, renewable energy), electricity, mining, telecommunications, hotels and casinos, private equity, financial services, consultancy, advertising, electronic devices, smart cards, consumer goods, industrial goods, real estate, alcoholic beverages, food, paper, motor vehicles, and environment.
