Mike Allen is a Consultant at Fasken Martineau LLP. He specialises in litigation arising out of shipping and transportation disputes. Mike is also a Chartered Engineer, accredited mediator and arbitrator.
Mike began his professional career in the Royal Navy and has practical deck and engine room watchkeeping experience. A mechanical engineering graduate, he then completed a post graduate nuclear physics course at the Royal Naval College Greenwich, going on to serve as an Engineer Officer in nuclear submarines.
Mike resigned his commission after 11 years in the Royal Navy and qualified as a solicitor. His practice includes all aspects of shipping and offshore disputes from the construction and conversion of ships and offshore structures, carriage of goods, marine insurance issues, collision, salvage and general average. He specialises in technical disputes where his practical experience can be of great benefit to clients.
Mike is the Chairman of the International Tug, Salvage and OSV Convention and acts as a mediator and arbitrator. He speaks and writes regularly on the legal aspects of marine engineering and is currently reviewing the issues arising out of the possible introduction of nuclear propulsion in merchant ships.
