A great honour: Fasken Martineau's Raymond Chrétien appointed to the Order of Canada
July 15, 2010
Ottawa (Canada) Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that
Raymond Chrétien, a partner and strategic advisor with the firm, has been appointed to the Order of Canada by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.
Mr. Chrétien has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada (O.C.), the second highest distinction in the Order.
His nomination comes after a 38-year public service career that included serving as Canada's ambassador to France, the United States, Belgium, Mexico and the Congo. "This honour is well deserved by my friend and colleague, Raymond. He has devoted his career to serving our country. As a firm, we are happy to continue to benefit from his insights into business and governments worldwide," said
David Corbett, Fasken Martineau's Managing Partner.
Mr. Chrétien joined Fasken Martineau in 2004 upon his retirement from the federal public service. He has extensive knowledge and first-hand experience of senior government affairs, international financing agencies, and complex issues in international negotiations and trade agreements. The Government of Québec recently appointed Mr. Chrétien to act as its official representative with the authorities for New York State and the New England region, and the Government of the United States, in talks to develop Montréal-to-Boston and Montréal-to-New York rail corridors.
