In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court of Canada has upheld as constitutional the
restrictions on communications by nonpoliticians during an election campaign.

Today's judgement restores a series of Canada Elections Act restrictions on third-party election advertising whose enforcement had been suspended after the Alberta Court of Appeal declared them unconstitutional in late 2002.
