Pending federal election will be subject to new financing rules

Amid rumours of an imminent federal election call, it is an important time to review the significant changes that have been made to political financing rules. Effective January 1, 2004, changes to the Canada Elections Act completely restructured the manner in which federal political parties and candidates are funded. The most significant change was to replace most private donations to political parties with direct government funding.
