On Tuesday, New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord unveiled a series of proposals to make government and politics more transparent and accountable.

Included within the 19-page reform package were two items that received little media attention. First, the province wants to restrict political contributions by minors. Second, it proposes restrictions on political donations by municipalities, health authorities, education councils (school boards) and other publicly funded institutions.

The first reform appears to respond to the recent woes of one candidate for the federal Liberal leadership; following a public outcry, he gave back several contributions from children.
