June 14, 2010
Montreal (Canada) Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that the Québec minister of transport, Madame Julie Boulet, has appointed
Raymond Chrétien to act as the Government of Québec's official representative with the authorities for New York State and the New England region, and the Government of the United States, in talks to develop Montréal-to-Boston and Montréal-to-New York rail corridors.
"The development of rail corridors between Québec and New England is an exceptional opportunity in terms of economic relations with our American neighbours, the positioning of Québec and its largest city on the American east coast, and the province's economic and cultural influence throughout North America. I am honoured to have been invited to participate, and I would like to thank Minister Boulet for this testimony of trust," said Raymond Chrétien, Partner and Strategic Advisor with Fasken Martineau and former Canadian Ambassador to France, the United States, Belgium, Mexico and the Congo.
Mr. Chrétien will be assisted by Mtre
Anne Drost, also a Fasken Martineau Partner, who practices in the area of railway transportation and holds a master's degree in environmental law from the University of Vermont's law faculty.
Mr. Chrétien and Mtre Drost will also act as Strategic Counsel for the Government of Québec with regard to the elaboration of all different aspects of the development of these rail corridors.
"Raymond Chrétien's considerable experience in treaty and international negotiations makes him the ideal choice to serve as the province's representative," said
