Simplified Procedure

Litigation and Dispute Resolution Bulletin
October 2008

Our litigation bulletin series is designed to demystify the litigation process. The simplified procedure, which is sometimes referred to as the simplified rules, was created in order to provide a less expensive way of litigating claims of modest amounts. The simplified rules streamline the procedural steps in the litigation and eliminate some of the steps that are required in litigation under the ordinary procedure, such as examinations for discovery. This latest bulletin provides information about when an action can or should be brought under the simplified procedure, and outlines some of the differences between the simplified procedure and the ordinary procedure in Ontario.
