1. A Social Web Primer
Web 2.0 and social networking are a noisy part of the continuingly unpredictable evolution of the Internet. The impact on individuals and organizations is already significant, and will likely be profound. David Vogt, CEO of CrowdTrust, will introduce some of the major issues and trends.

2. Managing Social Networking Sites
David Ford, Associate in Fasken Martineau's Technology Group, will highlight the approaches and policies companies should implement to manage these sites in the workplace.

3. Privacy & Employment
Lorene Novakowski, Partner and Regional Leader of Fasken Martineau's Privacy Practice Group, will discuss various privacy issues relating to social networking including the Federal Privacy Commissioner's settlement with Facebook and its implications and notice requirements in privacy policies. Lorene will also explore what constitutes a "reasonable" collection and use of personal information from Web 2.0 and the right of right of employer to monitor employee use of Web 2.0 at and outside the workplace.

4. Reputation Management
Mat Wilcox, CEO and Founder of Wilcox Group, one of Canada's largest national independent public relations firms, will talk about how social media is quietly but firmly changing and impacting business. Social media thrives on multi-way communications that no one controls, yet everyone influences. While online applications such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn provide great opportunities to acquire new business, they also provide ways to share negative or slanderous results. As businesspeople, you need to develop and implement online strategies to protect and manage your brand and reputation. Learn how to monitor the online conversation; prevent squatters, dopplegangers and yourcompanysucks.com; improve search engine ranking; and build and control your brand.

5. Litigation Issues
Individuals might mistreat your logo; disgruntled employees or clients might abuse your company's name in the public domain. Mark Fancourt-Smith, Associate in Fasken Martineau's Litigation Group, will explain your legal options if you need to address these issues.

Our Moderator: David Wotherspoon, Partner, practices primarily in the areas of IP, technology and defamation. The media often consults David for comment on reports and articles related to his practice area.
