Stuart Brotman

Partner

Stuart Brotman is a partner in the firm's Insolvency and Restructuring Group and works out of our Toronto office. Stuart acts in all nature of insolvency proceedings including bankruptcy, receivership and restructuring proceedings under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Canada Business Corporations Act and other corporate legislation and has considerable experience in cross-border matters under the CCAA and Chapter 15 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

Stuart regularly represents both private and public companies in court as well as in insolvency related commercial transactions. His clients span a broad range of stakeholders including debtors, creditors, suppliers, customers and other contracting parties (e.g., landlords and licensors) and monitors, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy. Stuart has argued cases before all levels of court in Ontario. He also represents prospective purchasers in pursuing and completing asset sales in domestic and cross-border insolvency proceedings.

Stuart is an active speaker and a regular contributor to texts and articles relating to insolvency and creditors' rights.
