We take pride in our community involvement. You'll find our lawyers throughout the community, lending a hand or their expertise to many charitable organizations such as the United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, B'nai Brith Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Canadian Mental Health Association and Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre, just to name a few.
Our firm also has a rich tradition of fulfilling its responsibilities to the profession. We've contributed to the education of law students, the development of legal principles, as well as the governance of the profession.
Our lawyers are involved with law schools – both through teaching and participation in events such as the Fasken Martineau First Year Advocacy Workshop.
Some recent publications by our lawyers include:
- Outsourcing Transactions: A Practical Guide by Ian Kyer and John Beardwood.
- GAAR Interpreted: The General Anti-Avoidance Rule by Alan Schwartz, Ron Choudhury, David Fox, Paul Monahan, David Robertson and Peter Vair.
- Taxation of Mutual Fund Trusts and Corporations in Canada by Mitchell Thaw.
- Succession Planning Toolkit by Elena Hoffstein and Corina Weigl.
We are involved in producing or editing, among other prestigious publications, the Business Law Reports, the Butterworths consolidated Canada Business Corporations Act and Ontario Business Corporations Act, and LexisNexis/Matthew Bender's Doing Business In Canada. We also edit Williston & Rolls Court Forms – originally written by two partners of the firm, Walter Williston and Ronald Rolls.
Our lawyers take a proactive role in the governance of the legal profession in
