Sunny Sodhi is a partner in the Business Law section of the firm's Toronto office and an active member of several practice groups, including Corporate/Commercial and Financial Institutions and Services.
Sunny's practice encompasses a broad range of corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions for both public and private companies across all sectors, corporate governance and restructurings. His mergers and acquisitions practice includes advising companies, acting as either acquirors or targets, and their boards of directors in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and takeovers.
Sunny has extensive experience advising financial institutions on both corporate and regulatory matters. In providing advice to banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions, both domestic and foreign, Sunny advises on issues relating to corporate governance, business powers, ownership, corporate finance and investments. He routinely assists in the implementation of business initiatives for financial institution clients and helps them correspond with Canada's federal financial institutions regulator (the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI)) and other regulators. Sunny has deep expertise in advising foreign financial institutions seeking to carry on business in Canada or to invest in Canadian entities.
Sunny is also focused on the growing volume of business, both inbound and outbound, between India and Canada and is actively engaged in the firm's intenational business development initiatives, particularly as they relate to India. He has advised Indian and Canadian companies on establishing and expanding operations, including through joint ventures, and on new opportunities in both countries.
