Superconférence sur la construction

Speaker, Canadian Institute
November 16, 2010
Centre Mont-Royal
2200, Mansfield Street
Montreal, QC, Canada

Event participants:

Dominique Gibbens

Me Dominique Gibbens will shed light on authentication of engineering documents: Reconciling construction and engineering perspectives according to engineering ethics.

Legal Viewpoint

Authenticating engineering documents is a delicate process. Accountability is difficult to determine when the financial and
legal consequences apply as much to the general contractor as to the client who hires the engineers.

  • Ethical obligations surrounding authentication of documents prepared by a colleague
  • Typical contractual provisions providing for the scope of verification
  • Reconciling the contract and the code
    • Limiting the nature and application of the authentication
    • Clearly disclosing the verification's objectives
    • Authenticating for administrative purposes
  • Determining the relevant scope of duty in authentication of:
    • Shop drawings
    • Engineering drawings
    • Plan revisions
    • Summary plan revisions

Note that this conference will be addressed only in french.
