Susan Ben-Oliel is a registered Patent Agent in Canada and the United States, a Trade-mark Agent in Canada and a technology and intellectual property lawyer in Canada. She has 20 years of experience working with clients to commercialize and optimize the value of their technologies.
Susan's experience includes assisting companies on all aspects of protecting intangible assets in Canada and internationally. She routinely provides patent advice, drafts and prosecutes patent and industrial design applications, assists in the strategic management of patent and trade-mark portfolios, provides freedom-to-operate opinions and conducts due diligence related to intellectual property in commercial transactions and litigation. She also works with client's R&D and business development units to identify new proprietary technology and to monitor competitor activity.
In addition, Susan negotiates and prepares commercial contracts including license agreements, supply agreements, distribution agreements, service agreements, research agreements and confidentiality agreements.
Susan advises companies and universities across a broad spectrum of technologies including: manufacturing processes, pharmaceuticals, foods, dietary supplements, formulations, medical devices, chemical processes, water purification and treatment processes and devices, aquaculture processes and vaccines, forestry devices and propagation technologies, as well as a wide array of mechanical devices.
Prior to joining the firm, Susan worked as in-house counsel for a TSX and Nasdaq-listed technology company in Vancouver while managing their portfolio of hundreds of patents and trade-marks worldwide, including all oppositions and enforcements. She has also worked in a large multi-national law firm in Toronto and Vancouver and as a sole proprietor of her own intellectual property practice.
