Thomas H. Ferguson, Counsel, is a senior litigator in the firm's litigation group. Consistently recognized by Lexpert as a leading practitioner in corporate commercial litigation, product liability, directors' and officers' liability and construction litigation, Tom has also been recognized by the Best Lawyers in Canada for corporate commercial litigation.
Tom's more than forty years of legal experience brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his civil litigation practice as well as the firm's group of litigation practitioners. He has extensive trial and appeal experience in the Courts of Queen's Bench of Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Federal Court and the Courts of Appeal in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Tom has represented clients in several, very extensive civil trials and competition prosecution, some of which have exceeded more than a year in trial. Through his patience and determination, he has also been able to bring several very complex and lengthy lawsuits to a favourable conclusion prior to trial.
Tom has written and presented numerous papers at professional conferences organized by the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Institute and other professional organizations on insurance issues, civil procedure, construction and professional liability of directors and officers. He attended the Harvard Law School course on mediation in 2007. He has presented papers on advocacy, most recently for the Alberta Law Conference in 2006 where he delivered a paper and spoke on "Pointers For Examination in Chief." From 1982 to 1993, Tom was a team leader in the summer Intensive Trial Advocacy Programme for lawyers at the University of Calgary. In February 2009 he was accepted as a Fellow by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of London, England.
