Toronto (Canada) - Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that it is launching Fasken Martineau Institute. This new program of educational seminars will focus on the key legal issues facing senior business leaders in the Greater Toronto Area.

The initial course calendar, planned from January to June 2010, covers the wide range of specialty practices offered by the firm's lawyers in Toronto, including a six-part series focused on the top issues facing corporate directors and officers. Other courses announced include:

• A review of the top intellectual property cases of 2009
• A presentation on current topics in communications law in January
• A seminar on competitor collaborations under the new conspiracy provision of the Competition Act, co-presented with the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Competition, in February
• A mining seminar on accessing global capital on the London Stock Exchange in March
• Updates on both infrastructure and public-private partnerships (P3) and tax law in April
• A seminar on pensions and benefits law for employers in May
• A presentation covering tactics and strategies for mergers and acquisitions of public companies in June.
