Fasken Martineau joins Law Society of Upper Canada program to retain and advance women lawyers in private practice.

March 2009

Fasken Martineau announced that it has joined a new Law Society of Upper Canada program to retain and advance women lawyers in private practice.

The “Justicia Think Tank” is a three year pilot project and includes representation from both medium and larger sized firms who have committed to achieve the following goals:

1. Developing a system to track demographics within the firm

2. Implementing written policies on flexible work arrangements and maternity, parental and adoption leave

3. Sharing best practices with respect to networking and business development opportunities for women lawyers

4. Developing and implementing a model for mentoring and leadership skills development for women lawyers.

“This is a terrific initiative and one we are eager to support. Encouraging women lawyers to remain in private practice and aiding their advancement in our industry is a key priority for us and should be for all firms, large and small” said Douglas New, Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee at Fasken Martineau.
