Did you find the secondment experience useful?

I had wanted to get some experience working in a government agency and this was perfect. The [ ] does litigation and policy work, which are exactly the two areas I am interested in, and there was a lot of very varied work to keep me busy. I feel I got a breadth of experience and a good look at the kinds of issues [ ] grapples with on a daily basis - all of which have an impact on public life.

Got to be involved in some higher level work than what you get to see as a summer student otherwise. Very useful seeing the client side of things.

It was a great opportunity to understand the day-to-day legal issues that a client must deal with. It also helped me to better understand the role that lawyers play in assisting companies with regulatory, contractual, and employment issues.

Since one of my areas of interest is litigation, the pure litigation experience offered at [ ] was an excellent fit for me. It complimented my experience at the firm very nicely, as it offered me litigation experience from a different perspective.

In particular, it was interesting for me to get a really good idea of how a demalgamation had occurred as well as really see how quickly things happened. I did a lot of due diligence but I knew that it was real work that needed to be done and normally would have occurred before a demalgamation like this happened. It was rewarding to know that my work was going to be put to real use.

It was interesting to be in such a different environment from that of the firm. Although it was a very interesting secondment, it made me really appreciate what the firm has to offer and want to come back to the firm environment. I learned that it has many facets involving various corporate issues and can involve litigation. I also saw how lawyers from various practices are needed on a particular transaction. It showed me how practice groups rely on one another in various circumstances.

My secondment experience was very useful in exposing me to not only a different legal environment but also to a different kind of litigation. I felt that it markedly improved my research skills because I was asked to research very narrow issues of the law.

Would you recommend your secondment assignment to other students?

Yes. If a person is interested in public law and especially if they are interested in policy, this is a great place to get some experience.

Yes, absolutely. The people were all great. The work was very interesting, and the level of responsibility was good.

[ ] was very prepared to accommodate me as a student. I was immediately treated as an equal to their permanent students and was given interesting work. The lawyers were always willing and available to give their guidance or support.

If a student is at all interested in [ ] there are numerous ways that they could be involved in a secondment at [ ] because there are always ongoing legal issues at [ ] I think it would be especially beneficial for someone who was interested in corporate just because of the nature of the work; a lot deals with contracts between [ ] and suppliers or corporate governance issues.

I found the people very enthusiastic about having me there - they gave me very interesting tasks with a large degree of responsibility. I really enjoyed the people and the work!
