Gar Emerson advises on corporate governance, M&A, restructurings, corporate finance, and corporate and securities law. He served as National Chair of Fasken Martineau from 2001 to 2006.

Gar Emerson is an Executive in Residence at the Faculty of Public Affairs, Carleton University, and at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He is also a member of the Directors in Residence faculty of The Directors College sponsored by the DeGroote School of Business (McMaster University) and the Conference Board of Canada, a certified director of The Institute of Corporate Directors and a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Gar Emerson is currently a director of CAE Inc.; Canadian Tire Corporation Limited; Sentry Select Capital Corp.; and Pelmorex Media Inc.

From 1990 to 2001, Mr. Emerson was the President and Chief Executive Officer of NM Rothschild & Sons Canada Limited, an investment banking and financial advisory firm established in Canada in 1990 affiliated with the Rothschild international investment banking group. As the senior executive of NM Rothschild Canada, Mr. Emerson provided investment banking and financial advisory services, including on M&A, corporate finance, restructurings, and privatizations.

Prior to 1990, Mr. Emerson was a senior partner of the Toronto law firm, Davies, Ward & Beck, engaged in securities and corporate law and mergers and acquisitions.

Gar Emerson has participated frequently as a panelist and speaker and published numerous papers and articles on governance, securities and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. He was the General Editor of Canadian Corporate Precedents (2nd and 3rd editions) from 1975 to 1990 and of Canadian Securities Law Precedents (1st edition) from 1985 to 1990.
