Helen Low practices primarily in the areas of wills, estates and trusts litigation, estate administration and estate dispute resolution with additional minor practice focus in health law and professional regulation.
Helen has acted as counsel on various estate-related litigation proceedings, including wills variation claims by spouses and children, common law spouse claims, proof of will claims, trust and unjust enrichment claims and abuse of powers of attorney/trustee actions. She also assists clients with incapacity planning (including advice on powers of attorney, living wills, representation agreements, and health care consents), as well as representing clients on contentious matters involving incapacity, including committeeship and adult guardianship applications. Helen regularly advises executors and administrators on contentious and non-contentious estate administration matters, including interpretation of wills, variation of trusts and settlements and contested court approval of estate accounts. She also provides advice to charities relating to will challenges and estate disputes.
Helen teaches at the UBC Law School and at Simon Fraser University's Masters Program in the area of estate law. She is also a regular presenter and author at continuing education seminars for other lawyers. Helen regularly speaks to groups and organizations in the community about estate law and related matters. She has served as a member of the Succession Law Reform Project, which has reviewed and recommended changes for the reform of estate related legislation in British Columbia.
