Al is a partner in London and Managing Partner of the firm's Johannesburg office.
Al is frequently cited as a leading international mining finance lawyer by Canada's national newspapers, the Globe & Mail and the National Post, as well as Lexpert, Canada's leading legal monthly. He is cited as one of the leading mining lawyers within the Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2006 Edition, UK Section. Al is frequently called upon as a speaker or panellist at conferences relating to the natural resources sector.
Al has been involved in many of the leading corporate finance and M&A deals in the resources sector in the past ten years, including First Uranium's IPO — the largest mining IPO of 2006 — and Platmin Limited's initial public offering on the AIM and TSX markets (acting for RBC Capital Markets, Haywood Securities and Grant Thornton). His clients have included issuers, as well as underwriters, in both TSX and AIM capital markets transactions, as well as M&A transactions.
Al helped to establish the firm's Johannesburg office in late 2003, became resident managing partner of the Johannesburg office in 2005 and, finally, became deputy managing partner of the London office upon its combination with Stringer Saul in February 2007.
