Paul Yerbury is a Partner at Fasken Martineau LLP and is Head of London's Taxation practice group.
Paul's practice provides a very broad range of tax advice covering all the seven main direct and indirect UK taxes, both domestically and with their interaction internationally, which also includes tax litigation and share valuations. Many of his clients are entrepreneurial in nature and this necessarily requires not only being able to advise on all matters concerning taxation, but also being able to put over often highly technical tax matters in a way which is comprehensible to the client. Paul is always concerned to obtain the best deal for his clients and in many matters he has challenged and succeeded in negotiating favourable settlements with HM Revenue & Customs.
His very wide experience, which includes periods in industry and banking as well as private practice, in addition to having a mathematical/scientific background and being qualified both as a barrister and a solicitor, enables him to embrace and advise on and manage large complex international transactions, particularly in the hotels and residential development sectors in Europe and Canada, where he has been involved in managing and structuring multi million US dollar crossborder international projects, and where a commercial understanding as well as the tax issues are of vital importance.
Paul works closely with the Corporate Department particularly concerning mergers and acquisitions and share schemes, and VAT and stamp duty land tax to the Property department. He continues to provide tax advice to a large number of non UK domiciled individuals in connection with their personal and corporate tax affairs including the setting up of offshore trusts and international holding company structures as well as providing tax advice to firms of accountants.
