Ralph Cox

Partner

Ralph Cox is a partner in Fasken Martineau LLP (London) and a member of the Technology and Intellectual Property practice group.

Ralph has specialised in contentious intellectual property matters, particularly patent litigation, since qualifying as a solicitor in 1994 and now leads the practice area in the firm's London office. He has taken a significant number of patent and trade mark actions to trial and appeal, many of which have been reported. Recent actions include Greiner v Becton Dickinson (patents - medical devices), Victorinox v True Utility (patents - consumer goods), Omnipharm v Sepracor (patents - pharmaceuticals), Eli Lilly v 8PM (trade mark infringement and damages enquiry); Wolters Kluwer v Reed Elsevier (trade mark infringement - interlocutory injunction); and Penthouse v Penthouse (trade mark ownership).

As well as litigation, Ralph's patent practice includes advice on freedom to operate, validity and patent portfolios and conducting proceedings before the UK Patent Office and the European Patent Office. He is a member of Fasken Martineau's iMarque team covering filing work as well as conducting Trade Marks Registry proceedings and, appeals from the Registry to the High Court. Other aspects of Ralph's practice include advising on and conducting litigation on passing off, copyright and designs as well as misuse of confidential information and the jurisdictional issues that often arise where multinational companies are involved or the infringing activities extend beyond the UK.
