Serge Lapointe, Ph.D.

Serge Lapointe has extensive experience in obtaining patent protection in the life sciences sector in Canada, the United States and abroad. He specialises in drafting patent applications and preparing opinions on patent validity and infringement for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. He is also frequently involved in intellectual property due diligence. 

Serge Lapointe specialises in genomics, proteomics and pharmaceuticals. He has particular experience involving assisted reproductive technologies, diseases of the central nervous system, obesity and diabetes, virology and microbiology, genetic markers, blood and nephrological disorders, stem cells, nutraceutical products and dental implants.

Before joining Fasken, Serge Lapointe acted as director of intellectual property for two public corporations, one focused on discovering new antibiotics and the other focussed on developing a new drug to fight Alzheimer's disease. He was also in charge of managing the patent portfolio for a start-up company which focussed on problems of diabetes and obesity. Serge Lapointe's industrial experience has made him fully aware of the specific scientific and regulatory aspects of drug development. He brings added value to his clients with his ability to view the technologies presented to him from a corporate perspective.
