Law Games

History

Canada Student Law Games began in the 1980's as a friendly hockey tournament between law schools. The idea for the competition came from Loudon Owen, an associate at one of the predecessor firms of Fasken Martineau.

The annual event has evolved from a one-day hockey tournament to a 5-day annual event including both sports and academic competitions. Today, Canada Student Law Games is the largest gathering of law students in the country.

Fasken Martineau has remained an integral part of Law Games since its inception.

Many of you may not realize that behind the annual games is a company called Canada Student Law Games Inc. The directors of the company from year to year are the organizers from the host law school. Fasken Martineau is counsel to Canada Student Law Games Inc., representing the company in all of its affairs on a pro bono basis.

Fasken Martineau sponsors the Annual Spirit Award, Law Games' most coveted prize. Each year Fasken Martineau donates $1,000.00 to a charity selected by the team awarded the Spirit Award.
