Paul Wilson, Partner in Fasken Martineau's Vancouver office, provided insight into emerging climate change initiatives such as cap-and-trade systems and carbon offsets purchase programs that are being implemented and exercised in Canada and the U.S., in an article published by National Law Journal. Wilson discussed how clients are already taking steps to become compliant with current and planned regulations, and how he and other lawyers in the Firm who practice in the Energy, Environmental and Climate Change Regulatory Group have been busy assisting clients with the purchase and sale of carbon offsets.
The article also highlights the informal relationship between Fasken Martineau and Seattle law firm, Perkins Coie. Their unique relationship serves to assist their respective clients from both sides of border as they sort through the myriad of climate change initiatives, legislations, programs and regulations.
Together, the two firms publish their own newsletter: CLIMATE Perspectives. The newsletter aimed at bringing cross-border perspectives on the Western Climate Initiative and the Midwestern Accord.
