Nicolas Simard has extensive experience in every kind of tax litigation concerning income tax, consumption taxes and voluntary disclosure.

Nicolas practises tax litigation. He represents individuals and companies during tax audits, objections and before the federal and provincial courts. An accomplished litigator, he has won several hundred cases throughout his career.  He is also an excellent negotiator who knows how to obtain the best for clients.

His expertise covers a myriad of tax issues, including challenges to unreasonable assessments, rectification of commercial transactions, directors’ liability, SR&ED, voluntary disclosures, arbitrary assessments and the applicability of the general anti-avoidance rule, among others.

Before joining Fasken, Nicolas was a tax litigator for the Canada Revenue Agency and at a well-known Montréal firm.


Nicolas regularly delivers seminars to tax professionals. He is recognized as a leading tax litigator in Canada. He has published several articles, some of which have been cited by judges in their decisions.
