This session will review the basics of the impact of privacy legislation on the workplace. The workshop will consider the implications of both public sector and private sector legislation on issues such as: collection of medical information, social networking for recruitment, use of GPS and other locator technology, and surveillance – both outside and inside the workplace. The session will also cover employer’s obligations for having a privacy management program that is compliant with the legislation including a discussion of how to implement privacy impact assessments and due diligence requirements for ensuring security of personal information. The workshop will include model policy language, privacy impact assessment and privacy management plan precedents.
