The necessity to impose transparency measures in mining, oil and gas industries is clear. The coming into force of the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (Canada), coupled with the recent introduction of parallel the Transparency Measures Act (in Quebec) echoes this necessity. In comparison, calls from civil society in South Africa for stricter governance in this regard indicate the inadequacies that exist in this sector. This seminar will provide you with a comparative analysis of the transparency measures in place from both a Canadian, US and South African perspective, and will consider the impact of these measures, and how inadequacies could be addressed.
